St. Hotel
/St Hotel surprises and delights with authentic Thai food in the heart of St Kilda.
The venue is a multi- tiered and multi-faceted complex, comprising of the downstairs Public Bar St Hotel and Dining Room, upstairs bespoke drinking with the Supper Club and Social Club.
The highly skilled kitchen is headed by Head Chef Sean Judd who bring dedication and vision to present a menu of authentic Thai food with regional influences. The menu is, quite simply put, sensational, boasting classically-inspired and creative Thai cuisine that makes a statement.
We started with the Chopped Flinders Island scallops, tamarind vinegar, and radish. A simple and tasty starter that was packed with flavour, we particularly loved the tamarind zing which added interest.
The Kingfish was excellent. Displaying technique and skilful restraint, the kingfish was beautifully presented and accompanied by a citrus-based marinade that cured the kingfish. It was a wonderful mélange of salinity, sweetness and acidity.
Addictively good, the Deep fried green papaya nest was one of our most favourite dishes from the menu. Featuring perfectly crispy battered strips of green papaya which soaked up a caramel chilli dressing alongside sweet pulled pork, it was to die for.
The pork hock was expertly prepared - juicy and succulent from having been slow cooked before being flash fried to seal in the juices. The outstanding pork was slathered with a sticky gooey braising liquid.
The Southern style chicken curry, was a show stopper. Harmonising a perfect balance of spices and sweetness, the accompanying curry was one of the best examples of a massaman curry we have had. Together with steamed rice, the robust and fragrant dish was an addictive and comforting dish.
St Hotel’s take on the traditional “mango and sticky rice” was delicious. Wonderfully melt in your mouth, the parfait went beautifully with the textural crispy sticky rice and tart raspberries. A welcome departure from the mundane, this dessert offered its own unique characteristics.
The golden puffs of Chinese doughnuts concluded our evening on a decadently sweet high. Fluffy and coated in a decadent pandan fudge sauce, the doughnuts went well with the contrasting fresh and cool roasted coconut ice cream
St Hotel delivers with a delicious menu of assertive Thai flavours in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
