BULLDOG GIN x The Penny Black

Penny Black is a live music haunt and local drinking spot for those traversing down Sydney Road in Brunswick. We stopped by to try their dinner menu and for the launch of Bulldog Gin leading into the summer!

We are big gin drinkers and this type of alcohol is perfect leading into the summer, served tastefully simply with tonic and lime (or lemon, or cucumber depending on your type of gin) or as a base for a variety of cocktails. We enjoy Bulldog Gin for its crisp flavour.

We tried the BFC Burger, which stands for Black Fried Crab. This would be a bit worrying, except that the fried crab is not black, but the bun is. This would also be worrying had we not all come to accept this when Burger King released their version! More of a fad than taste, the black bun is a cool look however. The soft shell crab was crunchy and flavourful and much like what you find with korean fried chicken, this burger is served with fragrant slaw and wasabi mayo. Alongside thick crunchy chips, this is a great pub/bar choice.

We also had the side of Wide Load Fries, which is pulled brisket beef, red beans, chunky guac and shredded American cheese. This is a flavour punch and as the night get on and the drnkeur you get (see what we did there) the better this tastes!
