Avenue 87
/Avenue 87 is a Modern Asian restaurant that celebrates well-loved Asian favourites with a twist. Traditional and contemporary techniques are combined to evoke childhood nostalgia whilst remaining contemporary.
At the helm are co-Chef-Founders Glen Tay and Alex Phan who were born in the same year, 1987, and both spent childhoods in Hougang: Glen at Avenue 8, and Alex at Avenue 7. Hence, the name Avenue 87.
Housed within warm, sophisticated ambience of a 2-storey conservation shophouse, Avenue 87 is the culmination of Glen and Alex’s personal journeys and the crucible of a friendship.
We loved tasting our way through their new lunch menu.
Highlights include the crusty grilled bread to start which is served with luxurious shio kombu butter, a simple yet effective course of baby cos lettuce, garlic aioli, crispy banana shallots and Korean choganjang as well as the perfectly executed and cheeky take on the classic Beef Wellington which featured melt in your mouth A4 Toriyama wagyu encased in puff pastry and parma ham and adorned with curry jus.
Dessert time was a real treat at Avenue 87. Of particular note was the reinterpretation of the banana fritter – think crusted gooey banana served with white chocolate and banana gelato and enhanced with gula melaka. Just yum.
