Belleville
/Full of eclectic charm, Belleville is an eatery which has a loyal band of followers who often wax lyrically about their famous chicken.
Their philosophy is simple: mouth-watering soul food inspired dishes, fresh drinks to match, funky tunes, smiling staff, and an atmosphere to live and laugh in.
Their enormous Brazilian rotisserie holds prime position in the kitchen, rotating up to 90 birds at any one time. The proof of course is in the tasting.
The roast chicken we had was exquisite. Perfectly cooked, the chicken was juicy, velvety in texture with a deliciously tasty skin which had been basted in its own juices.
The fried chicken and waffles were another standout. The chicken was delectably crispy and caramelised and was flavoured well by a decadently sweet spiced maple syrup which had a hint of chilli. The waffles possessed a perfectly crisp exterior and a fluffy interior and worked wonders with the chicken and syrup.
Our evening concluded sweetly with a simple and delicious banana filo cigar and salted caramel sauce. Baked to perfection, the filo pastry possessed a nice crisp bite.
Brought to life by the guys behind Section 8, Ferdydurke and Brunswick East burger joint The B.East, Belleville's delicious food for the soul coupled with its too cool for school vibe makes it well worth a visit.
