BHOJ
/In a class of its own, Bhoj is a stunning Indian restaurant by Chef and owner Rajesh Mehta who has been serving highly acclaimed Indian fare for more than 20 years.
Over the years, Bhoj has been the recipient of a myriad of awards and accolades, including many years as the Best Indian Restaurant in Melbourne and a highly coveted Chefs Hat awarded by The Age Good Food Guide.
Bhoj’s extensive menu features Mehta’s expertise in Indian cuisine with favourites such as butter chicken and other exotic dishes you will not get anywhere else.
To start the Malai Murg Kali Mirch Kebab which had been perfectly barbecued in a charcoal fired oven, was a great sign of things to come. Featuring wonderfully tender morsels of chicken steeped in a marinade of yoghurt, crushed black pepper, lemon juice, coriander roots and enriched with house cheese, it was deliciously full of flavour.
The Sounth Palak Papdi (Delhi version of nacho's) was similarly moreish. Thin flour wafers and spinach crisps were topped with delectable lentil dumplings and creamy yoghurt and refreshing chutneys We loved the perfectly balanced flavour profiles of sourness and heat.
For mains, we shared a selection of curries - Each, fantastic and went down a treat with fluffy basmati rice and naan breads.
The Chicken Dolci Golmirch was stunning. Our favourite dish of the night, it was rich, creamy and cooked with onions and green peppercorns in a cashew nut, coconut and tamarind based sauce, resulting in a dish that boasted a great depth of flavour.
The Butter Chicken on the other hand was some of the best we have tasted in Melbourne. The chicken was cooked to perfection. The juicy morsels of chicken were coated with moreish, rich and silky aromatic curry.
If you love your spice, do not go past the Kadai Gosht - Another showstopper, the curry featured succulent pieces of lamb lovingly simmered with tomatoes, fresh herbs, cloves, coriander seeds and crushed pepper.
Our evening concluded on a sweet high with a duo of desserts - the Pistachio Kulfi with Falooda and the Ras Malai - both wonderfully traditional.
Inspired by restaurants, street stalls and homes of every region of India, Bhoj is a gem. The dishes showcase high quality ingredients and expert techniques. Bhoj means Indian feast, and that’s exactly what awaits you.
