Bombay on Bay
/Located within the hustle and bustle of Port Melbourne, Bombay on Bay serves up hearty Indian dishes, packed with flavour, cooked in traditional methods, but served with modern flair.
The kitchen is headed up by talented and well-known Chef Suren. Bombay on Bay’s extensive menu features his expertise in Indian cuisine with favourites such as butter chicken and other exotic dishes you will not get anywhere else. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting Bombay on Bay to try their latest menu.
To start the Bombay on Bay’s take on the samosa was delicious. We loved the buttery triangular crisp puff pastry encasing spiced potato and peas and finished with yoghurt.
The Tandoori Prawn were similarly delightful. Stunningly fresh sea water King prawns had been marinated with yoghurt and spices and cooked to perfection.
A visit to Bombay on Bay would of course be incomplete without trying their extremely popular Chicken Murgh Tikka - Wonderfully tender spicy tandoori chicken is laced with yoghurt, cheese and spices.
As expected of any great Indian restaurant, Bombay on Bay’s curries impress. The goat curry was absolutely stunning. Tender braised Goat Pieces on the bone, in an aromatic curry full of spices, this was comfort food at its best.
Apart from Bombay on Bay’s legendary curries, a crowd-pleasing main dish is the biriyani. The lamb biriyani impressed with its luscious morsels of tender lamb served alongside perfectly cooked basmati.
Our evening concluded on a sweet high with a show stopping dessert - paan kulfi, a cheeky take on the traditional Indian ice cream – which is prepared with paan leaves (betel leaves), cardamom and fennel seeds.
Inspired by restaurants, street stalls and homes of every region of India, Bombay on Bay is a gem. The dishes showcase authentic flavours made using high quality ingredients and expert techniques, all presented in a modern manner.
