Eleni’s Kitchen + Bar offers a diverse culinary trip for those wanting to explore Greek cuisine in Melbourne. The menu takes you through an array of the island’s traditional cuisine using time honoured techniques and flavours.

Eleni’s is a family owned restaurant with a long history and association with Yarraville, having been involved in a number of cafes and restaurants over the last 50 years. This began with their first Greek restaurant, located opposite the “Sun Theatre,” in what is now known as the “Yarra Lounge”. Great Grandpa of the family was also the founding Greek Orthodox priest of the “Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox” in Yarraville.

Visiting Eleni’s Kitchen + Bar you will see walls filled with pictures of this amazing history. In Eleni’s the family have created a home away from home where patrons enjoy generous Greek hospitality as members of the Eleni’s family.

Our feast began with an array of delicious starters. The Kefalograviera Saganaki is was delicious. The marriage of salty pan-seared Kefalograviera, a robust sheep milk cheese originating from Greece, with sweet caramelised figs was an unbeatable combination. With the added textural kick from the chewiness of the cheese, this dish was an absolutely moreish appetiser.

The dish of Octopus was similarly delicious. The octopus was incredibly tender while retaining a robust structure courtesy of being expertly cooked. Having been chargrilled with lemon, oregano and EVOO it delivered a luxurious salinity and balanced tartness which further enhanced the flavours of the octopus.

For the main affair we could not resist sharing the mouth-watering Meat Platter. This was a mammoth sized dish which could have fed a small village! Think tender lamb and chicken gyros, loukanika, perfectly cooked lamb cutlets, Greek rissoles, Pork Kalamakia and a side of Tzatziki and Greek Salad. It was simply delicious.
