The new kid on St Kilda’s block, Flour Child stands out from the crowd by providing quality pizzas of the gourmet kind. If you love pizza, this pizzeria should be at the top of your list.
The main thing that sets Flour Child apart is their hero product, “Pinsa Romana”, which, whilst steeped in history is relatively new even in its place of origin of Rome in Italy. The flour is unique – a special combination of Soy Flour, Rice Flour, 00 Wheat Flour and Dry Yeast. As is the special mixing and kneading process and 48 hours of dough proving. The result is a base that is consistently crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Finally these babies are topped with the freshest ingredients. Belissimo!
A fun way of enjoying Flour Child is through their Pinsa Romana Takeaway Kits which provides you with the opportunity to make authentic and delicious pizza at home! Each kit includes a ready to bake Flour Child “Pinsa Romana” Pizza Base, ingredients for your selected pizza toppings and a super easy step by step guide.
We loved all 3 pizzas that we tried. The Quattro Formaggi was a cheese lover’s dream, featuring 4 different beautiful cheeses that simply melded together to form a flavour explosion. The Finocchiona was a pizza containing shredded mozzarella, finocchiona, caciocavallo cheese, cherry tomatoes and black olives. The porkiness of the Finocchiona was delectable and made a worthy contribution to the pizza.
Our favourite was the Bocca Chiusa. Not for the faint hearted, this pizza boasted a San Marzano tomato base and was topped with layers of shredded mozzarella, heady gorgonzola, casalingo hot salumi, “ndjula” and red onion. Just. YUM.
