Hawker Chan
/Years since its first opening and Hawker Chan is still bustling with patrons lining up to get a taste of Chef-owner Chan Hong Meng hawker food delights.
Since the humble hawker stall in Singapore was awarded the world’s cheapest Michelin-star meal, the crowds have been pouring in. We loved tasting our way through their latest menu which now includes 3 new crispy skin roast duck dishes.
We were pleased to find that the roast duck was excellent – tender, moist and flavoursome with beautifully addictive crispy skin.
A visit to Hawker Chan would of course be incomplete without some of its iconic soy sauce chicken. While the soy sauce recipe is a well-guarded secret, Chan has shared that it includes Chinese angelica root, cloves, coriander seed, and star anise.
The marinade is made from scratch every day and the whole chickens are steeped overnight, and then braised until the skin is deep brown and glossy. The result is the most tender morsels of chicken which are stunningly flavoured.
The char siew is also worth a mention. Think juicy flavoursome pork boasting the most perfect charring on the outside. And if you want to continue your love affair with pork then make sure you try the roasted pork too. Fragrant, sweet and succulent, this roast pork is sheer comfort food - Golden brown, blistered and crunchy.
Alongside these stunning proteins enjoy the slippery noodles and fluffy rice that taste wonderfully authentic. Oh, and add a couple of side dishes for a real feast!
With prices starting at $8.30 for a meal, Hawker Chan delivers a gratifying cheap feed for the masses.
