Hoptoberfest at Hophaus
/Hophaus’ annual Oktoberfest celebrations return this September-October with an extended program of events from a German degustation dinner with Weihenstephaner’s Head Brewer to a dedicated Games Day, beer trivia and of course the hugely popular Teckelrennen Annual Daschund Race, expanded and improved after a triumphant inaugural event last year.
Over 6.5 million people attended the world’s biggest celebration of beer and culture last year and once again, Melbourne’s most savvy Germans and fest lovers will flock to the modern bier hall at Southgate for the 2016 Hoptoberfest program from Friday 16 September to Sunday 23 October.
During the five-week program, Hoptoberfest expects to attract over 20,000 merrymakers young and old, coming together to experience the magic of the world’s largest festival, with a wide range of events.
Hophaus is known for their expertly curated German bier selection, and Hoptoberfest sees the biertenders take it up a notch. Steins will be filled with brews such as the pale but complex lager Wiehenstephaner Fest Bier, caramel malt flavoured amber lager Paulaner Fest Lager, full-bodied wheat bier Erdinger Fest Weisse and the classic dark Marzen style Spaten Fest Bier.
We absolutely loved indulging in Hophaus' delicious menu and beers to celebrate Hoptoberfest which is designed to reflect Hophaus’ unique take on modern Bavaria.
The Slow Cooked Beef Cheek was an absolute showstopper. Superbly cooked, we loved the exceedingly flavoursome melt-in-your-mouth pieces of beef. The Cauliflower puree, roasted shallots, kale, red wine jus were the perfect accompaniments. Simply delicious!
The plate of BBQ Chicken Maryland form the coal pit was similarly memorable. It was a dish which combined flawless texture with equally superlative flavours. Each moreish morsel was tender. The lamb’s accompanying spinach puree was simple, fresh and was a delight when smothered on the
A delightful dessert of Toffee Apple Strudel Vanilla ice cream and Quark Crème concluded our visit on a sweet high. The caramelised apples were perfectly poached with a rich toffee flavour. The apple pieces were crunchy and juicy and ruptured with sweetness. The beautiful pastry and quark crème provided balance to the sweetness of the caramelised apples while the vanilla ice cream maximised solitary pleasure as it slowly melted into the crumbs and hot filling.
This year's Hoptoberfest offers an extensive program of events with something for everyone.
