Huon Valley Mid Winter Fest. Running [15 – 17 July 2016] | Willie Smiths Cider
/Gastrology recently sampled a range of Willie Smiths ciders - arguably Tasmania’s finest apple ciders produced with fruit from the largest organic apple orchard in Australia using the tradition of farmhouse ciders from northern France.
As with many things in Tassie, it all starts with the cleanest air, the best soil and the purest water on earth – and the makers at Willie Smith’s do the rest. The result? Refreshing and fabulous!
The team at Willie Smiths don’t just make a great cider – they know how to throw a party too!
For the third time this year, the Willie Smiths crew will put on the Huon Valley Mid Winter Fest. Running from 15th – 17th July 2016 in the Willie Smiths Apple Shed, the festival will invite visitors to savour a perfect melding of irresistible local food, wine, beer and, of course, cider, warming bonfires, mesmerising folk music, dancing and storytelling.
Tasmania’s leading food and beverage producers will be on a mission to warm up the Tassie winter with slow-roasted locally sourced meats, comforting cheese fondue, wood fired offerings and more.
The delicious food and beverage line up is headlined by Willie Smith’s alongside Lark & Overeem distilleries who will treat crowds to limited release tipples in their pop up bar.
Matthew Evans (the Gourmet Farmer) will roll up in his Fat Pig Van to dish up a succulent array of paddock-to-plate dishes including free-range pork, sausages and a farmhouse plate with hardwood smoked ham and vegies picked straight from his farm in the Huon Valley.
Spotty Dog Brewers will fire up their American hickory and oak wood fires to produce classic ‘dude food’ including 14 hour smoked pulled pork and brisket topped off with Mac n Cheese and Southern Fried Chicken.
Tasman Quartermasters will take over the Willie Smiths wood fired oven to cook up a festival feast including organic cider cheese fondue, apple wood smoked 55 hour beef, cider vinegar sauerkraut and cider foam bedecked Huon Valley pork while Black Box Kitchen will bring their signature ‘Boxed Bread’; a heavenly hybrid of profiterole meets Yorkshire pudding baked fresh and filled with delicious confit duck, jerk pork, Huon smoked salmon, local apples and more.
The foodie line up is complete with Mountain Pepper Pizza, Lady Hester sourdough donuts, Nichols Rivulet Organic Farm, Cygneture Chocolates, Saffron Hearth handcrafted paella, Grandvewe Cheeses, Something from the Ground blueberries, Our Little Vegan Kitchen , Flamecake, Taco Taco, and The Cake Kombi.
