Kata Kita
/Following the success of Melbourne CBD Indonesian favourite, Yoi, Lie and her two sons, Michael and Dion Sanusi have unveiled their second Indonesian restaurant venture, called ‘Kata Kita’ and boy is it a cracker.
Situated at 266 La Trobe Street Melbourne, at the entrance to Melbourne Central, Kata Kita translates to ‘Together we say!', an invitation to relax, unwind and enjoy good Indonesian hospitality.
Together, Lie, Michael and Dion invite their customers to Jalan Jalan around Kata Kita’s menu of many flavours, as they honour a plethora of traditional Indonesian dishes each boasting traditional flavour and flare.
Kicking things up a notch from Yoi's speedy, hawker-style delights, Kata Kita delivers a new layer of modern Indonesian dining, combining traditional recipes with luxe local ingredients and sophisticated flavours all designed to share with family and friends.
We absolutely loved tasting our way through the menu.
To start, the Sate lilit is a flavour explosion. Beautifully marinated minced pork is wrapped around lemongrass skewers and grilled on charcoal and served with lime and sambal mata.
For mains the babi guling is a must-have, featuring beautifully crispy crackling, tender Balinese roast pork and a range of condiments including lawar (coconut mixed vegetables), bumbu genep (Balinese spice paste) and sambal embe (Balinese fried shallot sambal).
The Bebek goreng madura is another winner. Think slow-cooked Madura duck with a crispy skin and served with, lawar, bumbu hitam (rich and spicy sambal) and sambal mata.
For seafood lovers, do not go past the delectable Ikan bakar – It’s a very authentic dish of grilled pomfret fish, sweet and spicy glaze, sambal embe, sambal kecap, lime, served on banana leaf. One of our all-time favourite Indonesian dishes!
Dessert time continues to please at Kata Kita. If you’re after something extra decadent, the Cendol bao will leave you incredibly satisfied. Think fried bao, pandan jelly, palm sugar and rich coconut ice cream. Just yum!
For something lighter and more traditional the Kolak biji ubi will hit the spot - A simple yet lovely dish of sweet potato balls in creamy salted pandan coconut milk.
