La Colline

Set in the centre of Fira with impressive views over the caldera, La Colline is inspired by the passion and philosophy of French gastronomy utilising seasonal local produce.

The restaurant thrives under the guidance of Jerome Coustillas whose 30 years of experience in the culinary industry includes stints at Cap Eden Roc, The Palm d’ Or Restaurant of Hotel Martinez in Cannes and La Terrasse Restaurant of Hotel Juana a Juan. Unsurprisingly, the result is a menu that perfects the fine balance between flavour, texture and aroma so that every dish tantalises and surprises.

We loved tasting our way through the degustation menu.

To start, the “Cherve Bouyiourdi” was a beautiful layered creation of goats cheese, bell peppers, olives and caper leaves from Santorini. It was a rich flavour explosion.

The “Cycladic Orzo” that followed was similarly delicious. We loved that the natural sweetness of the grilled baby octopus was allowed so shine when served with the wild greens.

Our main courses followed next and continued on the theme of excellence. The “Mediterranean Scorpion Fish” was a stunner. Cooked to perfection, the exceedingly fresh fish was served with tender grilled baby calamari, potato confit and flavour-laden bouillabaisse sauce.

A cheeky dish of Grass-fed Lamb “Kebab” grazed our presence next. This was a hearty dish of melt in your mouth eggplant, minced morsels of lamb, spicy yoghurt and Santorini cherry tomatoes. It was like a hug from Yia Yia. Deceptively simple and perfect in every way.

Our evening concluded on a sweet high with the “Eikon Volcano”. Creamy Italian Meringue mimicked a volcano with strawberry and vanilla ice cream adorned with a berry sauce flowing from it like lava. It was a theatrical dish that was a delight to indulge in.
