Taking its name quite literally, Man Tong Kitchen or ‘full house’ in Chinese boasts a relaxed space of cavernous proportions. Perfect to accommodate the biggest of families.
To start, Man Tong Kitchen's dumplings are a must. While many Chinese restaurants in Melbourne serve dumplings, Man Tong’s variety are a cut above. Each variety is executed to perfection with their Xiao Long Baos in particular having developed quite the reputation.
An absolute highlight of our visit, the whole Murray Cod in soy sauce featured tried and true flavour combinations of soy, rice wine and ginger. The quality of the fish was exemplary and perfectly cooked resulting in a very delicate and moist piece of fish. A wonderfully simple dish that allowed the natural subtle sweetness of the fish to be enjoyed.
The lamb in special soy sauce was similarly delicious - beautifully tender and full of flavour. For vegetarians (and anyone else, really!), the homemade tofu with abalone sauce is a must have. We loved the crispy exterior encasing melt in your mouth tofu.
To conclude Man Tong’s take on traditional red bean pancake will ensure you end your visit on a sweet note. The pancake had ethereally light and crispy batter and was filled with soft and sweet red bean paste inside. Delicious!
