Melbourne Gin wins Gold Medal at 2020 Australian Gin Awards

Melbourne Gin, the gin that seeks to capture the spirit of Melbourne in a bottle, is proud to have won big at the 2020 Australian Gin Awards, taking home a Gold Medal in the Contemporary Gin category.

Despite only launching onto the gin scene in 2019, this is the 16th global award win for the emerging spirit, and the 56th global award for Australian Distilling Co overall. The product’s success is attributed to the combination of a high-quality base and inventive Australian botanicals, which make it a success both in Australia and overseas, proving that the rest of the world loves the spirit of Melbourne too.

The gin is distilled using locally-sourced fresh ginger and lemon myrtle, as well as other botanicals, designed to emulate the “spirit” of Melbourne.

Experienced distiller and Chairman of Judges, Bill Lark, is considered by many to be the ‘Godfather of the Australian Spirits Industry’ and was responsible for selecting a range of judges for this year’s panel, with an emphasis on technical expertise. The judging for the 2020 Australian Gin Awards took place in a secret location in NSW in early August, with three panels of judges. All products were served neat and judged blindly by the panel to ensure the judges were not swayed be existing preconceptions about brands.
