/Pizzeria Romana is an Italian eatery dedicated to the art of making fine pizzas. Since its opening on 8 May 2018, chef and owner Dario Falaschi has truly built a reputation as one of the best pizzerias in Melbourne’s East.
The restaurant possesses a polished industrial feel which retains a warm and familial character. The menu is grounded in strong Italian heritage whilst introducing some innovative menu items and spins on classic dishes.
Under the guidance of Dario, the restaurant runs like a well-oiled machine. Dario grew up in Rome and was passionate about food since he was young, and even started to cook traditional Roman Cuisine for his family and friends when he was only 10. Dario's passion for cooking meant that he left his background in Architecture and Graphic Arts to explore the culinary world through travelling and gaining experience in various kitchens from 5-star hotels to casinos and busy pizza shops to Italian restaurants (including E-lounge, Royal Saxon, Pizza Espresso, Stomping Ground Brewery as well as La Fucina in Rome).
Taking away from these invaluable experiences, Dario and his wife Kaoru spent a year to establish and renovate Pizzeria Romana to be what it is today - a family business that shares its passion for food.
The eatery is truly a family affair - with Dario managing the kitchen, Kaoru managing the front of house while their adorable young children, Leonardo and Hana helping out when they have time and even keeping guests' children entertained!
The appeal of Pizzeria Romana's pizzas lies in its beautiful crusts and the use of quality produce. Expect authentic Roman Pizza with top quality fresh ingredients. The naturally risen dough is made from Italian flour. Dario uses a long proofing technique with natural sourdough to create a truly authentic taste. The pizzas are exceptionally large with fresh toppings designed by Dario. To cater to food preferences, the pizzas are generally vegetarian but customers can add meat to any vegetarian pizza. The pizzas are finished with extra virgin olive oil and salt flakes.
An absolute must try is the Regina Margherita Pizza with San Daniele Prosciutto. The pizza was picture perfect and topped with delectable layers of sugo, cherry tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil and stunning San Daniele Prosciutto. Simply sensational.
For something heartier and a little bit special, do not go past the mushroom & truffle oil pizza which boast mozzarella, mushrooms, rosemary, sage, taleggio and truffle oil. Make sure you add crispy pancetta to the pizza for that extra bit of decadence. Go on, you deserve it.
Simplicity can also be simply delicious. A perfect example is the potato & zucchini pizza which would delight both vegetarians and carnivores alike. A classical flavour explosion of mozzarella, kipfler potato, rosemary, sage, zucchini, artichokes and heady pecorino romano DOP. Belissimo!
Pizzeria Romana understands the warmth of true Italian hospitality - A casual restaurant, which doesn’t take its approach to serving guests casually at all. A real neighbourhood gem for locals, and well worth the trip for anyone else!
