+39 Pizzeria Toorak
/+39 Pizzeria, the much-loved CBD pizzeria has just opened their new venue in Toorak.
+39 Pizzeria celebrates the Italian way by embracing the joy of sharing locally sourced, fresh produce together with family and friends. The heart of Italian cuisine and culture is at the core of +39 Pizzeria, with every dish on the menu created using traditional flavours and techniques that have been brought over from Italy, handed down through generations of Nonna’s and Nonno’s to be recreated right here in Melbourne, Australia’s food capital.
The restaurant was bustling on the night of our visit. With long, shared tables, platters of delicious offerings and some lovely Italian wine, +39 is the ideal venue for families and friends to come together and enjoy some true Italian hospitality.
Alongside their legendary wood-fired oven pizza, the menu features traditional favourites as well as inspired interpretations of the classics.
As expected from any great Italian eatery, +39 make excellent pasta dishes. The fettuccine ai funghi porcini was a stunning start to our meal. To celebrate the truffle season, +39 Toorak also offered black truffles sourced from Umbria to add to any dish. We loved adding the truffle to the beautifully al dente egg fettuccine infused with porcini mushrooms, porcini mushroom stock, porcini mushrooms, parmesan and Black truffle paste. It was comfort food at its best.
For mains, the pizzas were superb. Of particular note was the Wagyu pizza - picture perfect in appearance and outstanding in taste. Decadent slices of air dried score 9+ wagyu bresaola, dollops of Fior di latte mozzarella and beautiful sweet cherry tomatoes finished with rocket, lemon juice, cracked pepper and parmesan created a delightful fusion of flavours that would keep any pizza purist happy. Encircled with a puffy crisp crust, this pizza was superb.
For dessert, we indulged in some typical sweets from the Piedmont region in Italy (which is available only at the Toorak +39). The Bonet was the perfect winter treat - a soft, rich dessert, that melts in your mouth and can be eaten with a spoon. We also loved the Torta di Nocciole (Hazelnut Cake) where hazelnuts are the star of the show. This was served in the traditional manner with luxurious zabaglione but was equally as delightful when eaten on its own. Simple but also simply beautiful.
