Shonan Kamakura
/Shonan Kamakura is an izakaya-style establishment located in Melbourne’s bustling CBD, dedicated first and foremost to the art of Japanese eating and drinking, offering a laid back environment for catching up with friends and family with a focus on quality food designed to share in comfortable surroundings.
Accompanying the wide range of sake, is a smorgasbord of Japanese small eats comprising of tempura, gyoza, sushi, sashimi and the like.
To start we indulged in sashimi mariawase - a mix of fresh sashimi. The scallops were our favourite – plump and boasting a natural sweetness.
For mains the tempura was beautiful. We loved the ethereally light batter encasing fresh prawns, fish and a variety of seasonal vegetables.
The teriyaki chicken was yet another winner. It was tender and delicious, with caramel undertones.
Our dinner ended on a sweet note with two Shonan Kamakura desserts. The waffle monaka was a lovely sandwich black sesame ice cream while the chocholate cheese cake was rich and decadent.
Unblemished execution of Japanese food in light of its vibrant atmosphere, desirable beverage selection and overall dining experience, Shonan Kamakura has certainly earned our stamp of approval.
