Shop 225

Shop 225 are maestros of the Melbourne pizza scene. If you are looking for quality pizzas of the gourmet kind, this pizzeria should be at the top of your list.

But pizza is not the only thing at Shop 225 that will whet your appetites. The menu continues to be grounded in strong Italian heritage and now also features a long list of stuzzichini and pasta  dishes which feature innovative vegan and gluten free options which are concocted without a single sacrifice to flavour.

The calamaro piccante was a real standout. We loved the tender calamari filled with breadcrumbs, spicy nduja and potatoes and served with a beautiful cherry tomato and olive sauce.

The beef carpaccio was similarly delicious. Delicately thin slices of cured beef fillet was topped with beetroot, roquette, artichokes and daikon and adorned with creamy mustard vinaigrette.

The pasta dishes are equally sensational at Shop 225. On this occasion we enjoyed the homemade ravioli which was simply lovely - al dente layers of pasta encased salmon and mascarpone and was served with a creamy green pea and roasted tomato sauce. Sheer comfort food at its best. 

A visit to Shop 225 would of course be incomplete without some of their fabulous pizza. We loved the Il Dottore pizza  - picture perfect in appearance and outstanding in taste. Unctuous homemade Calabrian sausage, dollops of fior di latte mozzarella, layers of Pomodoro, finished with Italian porcini mushrooms created a delightful fusion of flavours that would keep any pizza purist happy. Encircled with a puffy crisp crust, this pizza was superb.

Dessert time continued to excite at Shop 225. Whatever you do, make sure you try the cassata – a beautiful pistachio semifreddo with  hazelnuts, chocolate and raisins. For chocolate lovers, we highly recommend the salame di cioccolato – it will have your tastebuds singing! And for something a little special, the vegan peaches and cream meringue served with passionfruit is a light and perfectly balanced dessert.
