Sun Kitchen

Sun Kitchen is Melbourne’s latest fine-dining restaurant on the edge of Albert Park Lake - A unique celebration of Chinese luxury, underpinned by an exquisite gastronomic experience, sophisticated décor and magnificent lake views.

The menu features the best of Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine as well as a hotpot offering.

We loved tasting our way through the menu. To start we loved the golden crispy tofu, braised beef tendon with chilli sauce and absolutely stunning slippery hot and sour mung bean noodles.

The soups that followed were similarly delicious. The shunde sliced fish thicken soup was wonderfully luxurious and had a creamy silky texture whereas the double boiled chicken with Chinese yam soup was rich in flavour yet light.

Seafood is also prepared expertly at Sun Kitchen. The dish of Golden Prawn was a real highlight. Think big juicy prawns coated in an ethereally light batter which is then slathered with creamy coconut ginger sauce. Just yum! The Sichuan classic, Sizzling Fish Fillet in Hot Chilli Oil was another stunner. We loved that the fish tasted fresh and simply melted in our mouths.

Meat lovers are also very well taken care of at Sun Kitchen. Expect to find black truffle MS9+ Wagyu beef, Golden Crispy Chicken and Mao’s Dongting braised pork belly to satiate and delight. We were incredibly impressed with these dishes – each carefully prepared and boasting great flavour and produce.

If you’re looking for a tasty canvas to enjoy these stunning dishes, look no further than the XO Seafood Fried Rice. A fantastic dish in its own right, it is also perfect to enjoy as a side to the other dishes.

Our visit to Sun Kitchen concluded on lovely sweet note with traditional desserts of Almond tea and egg white soup and osmanthus jelly. Both classically prepared and tasted delicious.

On the drinks front, there is also much to love. Sun Kitchen’s wine selection is one of our city’s most grandiose with precisely 888 premium drops valued at approximately 1.5 million dollars. The list focuses on exceptional producers from Australia, New Zealand and France, with labels including Yarra Yering, Felton Road and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.

The spirits list is equally luxurious, championing the Chinese Moutai spirit, with bottles aged up to 50 years alongside Western tipples from the likes of Macallan and Hennessy. A sublime cocktail list showcasing Asian flavours is also sure to delight, featuring Thousand Seed Daiquiri with strawberry, passionfruit and rum, and Lychee Lime Fizz with honey and mint alongside elevated takes on local classics such as espresso martini and Japanese slipper.

Boasting elegant décor with panoramic waterside views spanning two levels, commendable food and drink options and staff that are eager to please, Sun Kitchen is a compelling proposition for guests who would like to indulge and be treated like royalty while indulging in the flavours loved by Qing Dynasty emperors.
