Tahniah

Named after the Malay word used to congratulate, “Tahniah” lives up to its calling by being a place perfect for celebrating and sharing good food.

The menu features a variety of South East Asian favourites including hawker style food as well as main dishes to share with rice. We enjoyed the selection of entrees which we devoured very quickly. Of particular note were the succulent, aromatic, freshly grilled chicken satay skewers which we slathered in the decadent and perfectly spiced satay sauce.

For mains, the Malaysian Curry Beef (Rendang) was decadent. The full-bodied, pungent rendang gravy paired beautifully with melt-in-your-mouth morsels of beef. We enjoyed the richness of the curry and the generous use of spices which showcased the customary punchy flavours exhibited by Malaysian curries generally.  Together with fluffy roti, it was an addictive and comforting dish.

Another highlight was the Assam Barramundi. The perfectly cooked barramundi was laced with perfectly seasoned Assam curry broth. We loved the beautiful tartness from the Assam base which goes particularly well with seafood.

Dessert time at Tahniah continues to please with a selection of Malaysian-inspired desserts. The durian ice cream (strictly for Durian lovers ONLY), was a stand out. The decadent durian ice cream was a welcome departure from the usually weak flavours and instead was vibrant, creamy and absolutely moreish. Tahniah’s take on the traditional banana fritter was similarly delicious. The banana had an ethereally light and crispy batter and was soft and sweet inside. Served with ice cream, this was a pleasant end to our meal.   

Tahniah presents a refreshing take on South East Asian cuisine (with a focus on Malaysian food) whilst remaining true to its origins. With food this good, a delightfully casual atmosphere and prices this reasonable, Tahniah is great for a casual catch up with friends or a decadent feast with the family.
