Tao's
/Located in leafy Bulleen just 15 minutes from the city centre, Tao's is a tranquil restaurant serving a unique dining experience.
The ambience is modern and relaxed with furniture and fittings carefully curated and brought across the seas from Taiwan. The vast space boasts large windows and a balcony area with expansive views of greenery and allowing plenty of natural light to stream in creating a romantic ambience - a perfect setting for special occasions or functions.
A one of a kind Modern Japanese concept, Tao's offers a multi-course set menu with choices built in for some of the courses (think a cross between a-la-carte dining with a degustation with various options available to tailor your dining experience!).
The menu features a combination of Eastern and Western dishes whilst offering a very interesting blend of traditional and contemporary flavours.
To start Tao’s sashimi were staggeringly fresh and exquisitely textured. In particular we loved the plump, sweet scallop which beggared belief - some of the most delicious we have encountered. It is clear that Tao’s is using only the freshest, highest quality seafood.
The seafood chowder was yet another highlight - luscious, thick and full of flavour.
For mains the sizzling porterhouse is highly recommended. The delicious steak arrived theatrically, sizzling on the plate. Rest assured this dish will always be cooked to your liking. Not a fan of medium-rare steak? All you have to do is leave it on the hot stone a while longer. The accompanying black pepper and mushroom sauce was wonderful - boasting ample heat from the sufficient use of pepper.
The sous vide salmon was similarly delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection and served with delightfully umami mix of ginger onion and plum cordia. It was the perfect dish to enjoy with Tao's signature rice.
Our dinner concluded on a sweet high with a duo of delectable desserts. The tahini and honey pannacotta with sweet potato was beautifully melt in your mouth while the yoghurt mousse and pistachio cake was dreamy and possessed the perfect level of sweetness with the slight tartness from the yoghurt mousse shining through.
