Thai @ Toorak

Melbourne is filled with Thai restaurants but Thai @ Toorak manages to stand out from the crowd. Tucked away, up a flight of stairs from Toorak's bustling Toorak Road, the restaurant rewards those who venture in.

Authentic Thai cuisine is the name of the game here. Expect bold and assertive Thai flavours that do not shy away from spices and heat. If you want the real thing, its here. And it comes in abundance. Don't let the pricing fool you, the portions are wonderfully generous and perfect for sharing. And for wine lovers waiting to open that bottle in the cellar, Thai @ Toorak just so happens to be BYO as well.

We loved tasting our way through their menu. To start, the mixed entree is the way to go. A delicious selection of spring rolls, curry puffs, fish cakes, satay chicken pandan and prawn crackers served with 2 sauces (sweet chilli and peanut).

For mains we fell in love with the Pla nueng manow - Whole barramundi steamed with a variety of herbs and lemon sauce. It's a thing of beauty. The fish was exceedingly fresh with the mix of savouriness and slight tartness bringing out its natural sweetness.

The Gang Dang (red curry) was similarly delicious. The perfectly seasoned curry broth possessed the customary punchy flavours exhibited by South East Asian curries and was a great match for the oily texture of the salmon. Together with coconut rice, this was an addictive and comforting dish.

And yes, stir-fries here are great too. Our vegetable and tofu grapow was bursting with flavour and boasted a beautiful char from the wok.

Thai @ Toorak pleases with an authentic Thai menu, which boasts fresh ingredients, cooked to order delivering affordable quality Thai food to Melbournians. Expect generosity and a whole lot of care.
