The Lobby at The Lyall

You know those hotels overseas in New York and London where all your favourite spots are bars within hotels? Enter The Lobby at The Lyall.

The Lyall Hotel and Spa have made a few changes and we’re about to see a Hoteliers’ changing of the guard as owners, Rowina and Peter Thomas, see their daughter, Arielle step in to bring The Lobby to life.

The Lyall is a family owned, five-star boutique hotel in South Yarra. Dipping their toes into the bar scene in June of this year, The Lobby opened as a pop-up bar on the street level of the hotel and is continuing for the Summer season.

The hotel closed during COVID and in that small window in June when Melbournians were allowed out, the new generation took over the bar and it was full every single night.

As a second lockdown was announced for Victoria, the hardship of the pandemic was settling in and as an initiative to keep The Lobby ball rolling, the team delivered fresh bottled cocktails via UberEats to ensure Melbournians were keeping the vibes as positive ones.

Now that restrictions have eased, Melbourne is slowly but surely coming back to life and The Lobby is set to make its mark in the hospo scene.

Under this new management, Arielle is leaning into creating Melbourne’s most exciting new bar.

Collaborating with Cucinetta, a local favourite, to run the kitchen, The Lobby promotes the neighbourhood with amazing signature cocktails, and spritz, alongside antipasti boards and authentic Italian pizza. 

Their signature cocktails are a true highlight. The Cocoban Negroni was a crowd pleaser. Think luxurious banana rum mixed with coconut Campari and heady vermouth. Just yum! The Ginger Boy was another standout. We loved the exciting mix of cognac, amaretto, apricot, lemon and ginger.
