The Que Club
/Step into The Que Club and you will be greeted by the heady aromas of smoke, fire and spice.
A veritable Aladdin’s cave of barbecue delights, The Que Club can be as fun or serious, long or short, boozy or meaty or plant-based or indeed educational as you like.
On the drinks front, an impressive list of whiskey, tequila and rum from around the world (and Australia) sets the tone. Whether you’re drinking them neat, on ice or as the base for one of Que’s classic, yet elevated cocktails, the remarkable headiness of flavours readies you for a journey over fire, through smoke and right onto saucy, spicy heaven. If you’re a traditionalist at heart and can think of no better match for barbecue than beer, there’s plenty to choose from. Wine is by the glass, or bottle if you fancy settling in.
And now to eat. Head Chef Fabio Castello (ex-Cicciolina, Massi and Vue de Monde) hails from Brazil where, as a rising culinary star, he had his own MTV cooking show. Whilst a natural showman at heart (which makes for an engaging and fascinating dining experience), Fabio lets the ingredients do the majority of the talking, with the expert introduction of smoke, fire and spice to bring out the very best in the ethically sourced, sustainably produced ingredients.
And whilst protein plays an important role on the menu, Fabio’s vegetarian and vegan offerings are outstanding displays of his natural born skill and talent.
If you’re overwhelmed by the incredible options, we highly recommend you opt for the Natural Born Griller option and let the Que crew flex their expertise by selecting the very best seasonal options for the whole table to enjoy. We were absolutely spoiled by the kitchen!
To start, we fell in love with the tender and beautifully charred BBQ octopus skewer with olive and tabasco sauce. To follow, the grilled Skull Island prawn with bacon XO sauce, rosemary and ciabatta was similarly delicious as was the juicy house made sausage served with smoked tomato chutney.
For mains the smoked duck breast was cooked to absolute perfection and went beautifully with the gently sweet poached quince and artichoke puree. Whatever you do, do not leave without trying the sliced angus brisket with pico de gallo – it’s seriously some of the best smoked brisket we’ve had in Melbourne.
Dessert time continues on the barbecue theme. Make sure you try the smoked yogurt cheesecake with hazelnut cookie and citrus. It is to die for.
And no visit to The Que Club would be complete without a quick whip around the retail space. Whether you’re browsing with booze in hand, ready to buy everything from flavour-packed, expertly butchered (in the US style) protein, or maybe it’s rubs and spices that have caught your eye, the passionate team are there to help ensure your barbecue dreams continue to grow well after you’ve finished your meal.
