White Mojo, Balwyn

White Mojo have recently expanded its reach to leafy Balwyn. The new café sits unassumingly along Whitehorse Road and continues the trend of too-pretty-to-eat, delicious fare and excellent coffee. The ambience is familiar to its ancestor (albeit much larger, this one here seats100) - chic charm with modern interior, wooden panels and furnishings alongside its' signature hexagonal marble print tables. 

The menu features fresh and modern cafe cuisine. A true example of how Melbourne is pushing the boundaries of the humble brunch. 

A cappuccino and latte arrives for our caffeine fix for the day, and as expected, each contained a perfect layer of silken froth, complete with flawless rosettas, and tasted terrific. There is also matcha latte on offer which is made from a house-made blend of premium matcha which goes down a treat.

An absolute highlight of our visit was the weekend special of House Smoked salmon (which theatrically arrived in a glass cloche filled with aromatic smoked wood). The salmon was cooked to perfection with just the perfect hint of smokiness. Combined with luxurious cabbage puree, delicious pipis, chorizo dust, sour dough and dehydrated bacon, all brought together by an oozy 63 degree egg, it was heaven on a plate.

If you prefer to start your day in a sweeter manner, the Eton Mess is a dish that manages to taste even better than it looks. Tart natural yoghurt together with fresh berries combine with textural freeze dried berries, strawberry gel, spice meringue and creamy coconut gel. We loved how the flavours worked well together producing a wonderfully balanced dish with bold, attention-grabbing flavours.

The waffles were equally as good. Perfectly made - crisp and well-browned on the outside with a moist, light, airy and fluffy inside r. They were the perfect canvas for lemon curd, meringue and freeze dried berries. Yum! 

Armed with amiable staff and a great selection of exciting food and beverage, White Mojo puts most cafes to shame.
