Workshop Bros GW

Brothers Nolan and Brian Taing and partner Joe La already operate two successful Workshop Brothers cafes in Glen Huntly and Melbourne’s CBD. Their newest veuture, Workshop Brothers Glen Waverley, takes the brand to a whole new level.

Unlike the other Workshop locations, the Glen Waverley project opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and possesses a look and feel much different to the others.

In line with the other locations, this new venture is grounded on 3 ideals - great food, amazing coffee and exceptional service. And we are pleased to confirm that this latest addition ticks all 3 boxes!

A brilliant addition to Glen Waverley's bustling culinary scene, Workshop Bros GW unmistakable charm is alluring with its adventurous menu that explores the punchy flavours and exotic spices of contemporary South East Asian fare.

The Bro bao pork belly buns were a stunning start to our visit. The fluffy white bao buns were the perfect canvas for the tender flavour-laden unctuous pork belly, pork floss and addictive peanut hoisin sauce.

The King fish sashimi was similarly delicious. The thick slices of very fresh king fish were served with a reduction of citrus juice, coconut gel and leek ash. The dish was notable for the quality of the fish and the interplay between the tartness of the pomelo and the richness of the coconut gel. It was a simple but well executed dish with a multitude of intense flavours which was highlighted by the clever use of contrasting sweetness, savoury and umami flavours.

The Maxed out miso mushroom dish was yet another highlight, simply bursting at the seams with umami.

For something lighter, the Spring chicken salad is a wonderful amalgamation of beautifully poached chicken breast and vibrant banana blossom salad.

But if you want to really spoil yourself, the curries are the way to go.

Whatever you do, do not go past the green duck curry duck breast with pineapple, lychee, Thai basil and cashew nuts. Marrying a perfect balance of spices and sweetness, the curry was perfectly seasoned and possessed the customary punchy flavours exhibited by South East Asian curries. Together with steamed rice, this robust and fragrant dish was an addictive and comforting dish.

If you love curries but can't quite take the heat, the Mellow yellow curry is for you. Think crispy skinned barramundi served with baby carrots, pickled cucumber with galangal, lemongrass brought together with a creamy ginger infused curry broth.

Desserts show modern techniques melded with traditional Asian flavours. The Black sesame parfait in deep fried bao bun, pumpkin caramel sauce and salted popcorn was unsurprisingly delicious. Highly recommended!
