Wine, dine, recline at Yea Peppercorn Hotel
/Gastrology recently escaped to Yea Peppercorn where we were spoiled with top quality food and boutique accommodation. Situated just beyond the Yarra Valley, Yea was originally a gold mining area and retains many historical buildings including Beaufort Manor (1876), Yea Shire Hall (1894), the post office (1890), several hotels and churches. When in the area, there is no better place to call home then the Peppercorn which was built in the 1860’s and exudes the town’s historic charm.
We loved staying in one of their onsite rooms which features elegant period fittings with tastefully appointed modern rooms, providing a unique accommodation experience to guests. The ensuite rooms feature a range of guest amenities. Continental breakfast is also included as part of the stay.
The best part about staying at Yea Peppercorn is its stunning restaurant. Offering the best that Yea has to offer, the menu boasts a range of delights that has something for everyone.
The restaurant also has a commendable wine list that is a mix of both local and well sourced wine. Each menu item also has a suggested wine that compliments the dish!
To start we loved the decadently cheesy garlic bread made with fluffy homemade Turkish bread and a generous amount of melted cheese.
For mains the mushroom gnocchi is a must have. Think pillow soft gnocchi coated in a luxurious creamy blue cheese sauce and earthy mushrooms.
Peppercorn’s version of the surf and turf, cheekily named “Reef and beef” is another stunner. We loved the locally sourced Scotch fillet served with creamy garlic prawns and seasonal vegetables.
The pork belly was similarly delicious. Having truly mastered the art of pork roasting, two generous pork belly slices had been succulently roasted to retain a porky juiciness, thereby achieving a healthy layer of melt-in-the-mouth fat in the process. Just yum!
To conclude your evening on a sweet note, Peppercorn’s delightful desserts are MUST. These desserts are created with true passion. The sticky date pudding was particularly delicious - An oldie but a goodie, it’s soft, gooey and topped with rich toffee sauce and a hearty scoop of vanilla ice cream. For something a little interesting, the Ukrainian honey cake is layers of yummy perfection.
Combining simple, excellently executed and flavoursome food with warm, knowledgeable service and a well-judged wine list, Peppercorn provides a superb dining experience. And it just so happens to be located in a hotel if you fancy staying the night!
