Lake House

Nestled on the serene shores of Lake Daylesford, Lake House is more than just a restaurant—it’s a destination that embodies culinary excellence and the beauty of seasonal, local produce. With a stunning dining room that boasts magnificent lake views and an expansive deck perfect for an aperitif at sunset, the experience is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the food.

Helmed by Culinary Director Alla Wolf-Tasker AM, Lake House holds two Chef Hats from the national Good Food Guide and is renowned for its commitment to quality and hospitality. The kitchen sources exceptional Australian ingredients, many from small-scale local suppliers and their own Dairy Flat Farm. This 40-acre property, just minutes from the restaurant, provides handpicked vegetables, olives, heirloom fruits, vineyard grapes, and house-baked sourdough, ensuring the freshest produce graces each plate.

The seasonal menu at Lake House is a true celebration of flavour, craftsmanship, and innovation. Diners can begin their journey with dishes such as the barely cooked Shark Bay scallops, delicately paired with strawberry gazpacho, green almonds, and fragrant basil—a dish that balances sweet, tangy, and herbaceous notes effortlessly.

For mains, the cod with green asparagus, brown butter sabayon, and jamón ibérico crumble offers a rich and indulgent taste of the sea, while the lamb capretto is a rustic yet refined dish, complemented by baby artichokes, red pepper ketchup, salsa marò, and fresh mint. Meat lovers will also delight in the Sher Wagyu, a luxurious plate of heirloom beetroot, baby leeks, malted potato, berries, and a touch of Banyuls vinegar to enhance the richness of the beef.

Desserts at Lake House are as artful as they are delicious. The summer blueberries from Adsum Farmhouse are a refreshing and vibrant finish, served with Iranian pistachios and a zesty hit of lime. For those with a penchant for chocolate, the ‘Cherry Ripe’ is an elegant reimagining of the classic treat, featuring Jivara milk chocolate, coconut, and a tantalizing sour cherry granité.

Beyond the impeccable cuisine, the experience at Lake House is enriched by its stunning natural surroundings. Guests sipping drinks on the deck at dusk may witness the resident kookaburra family soaring in for their evening feed, while cockatoos circle the towering silver birches and poplars. The ever-changing landscape through the seasons ensures that every visit is unique, offering new delights to discover.

Whether it’s the meticulously crafted dishes, the warm and welcoming service, or the breathtaking setting, Lake House continues to be a beacon of fine dining in regional Victoria. A visit here isn’t just a meal—it’s an unforgettable journey through the best of Australian produce, hospitality, and natural beauty.
