All Saints Estate

All Saints Estate is a family owned winery established in 1864 and located on the banks of the Murray River in Wahgunyah, part of the famed Rutherglen Wine region of North-East Victoria, Australia. Today, Eliza, Angela and Nicholas Brown make up the fourth-generation wine family who own and run All Saints Estate.

Each taking on different roles within the business (Eliza as CEO, Angela overseeing sales and marketing and Nicholas heading up the winemaking team as general manager), their passion has culminated in outstanding wines and a wonderful winery experience.

All Saints Estate philosophy is about quality and tradition from vineyard to bottle. Utilising traditional vineyard practices, hand picking and sorting of the grapes through to gentle pressing in their 100 year-old basket press.

Set within a castle facade originally built in 1864 to resemble the Castle of Mey, and surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens, a visit to the winery's heritage listed cellar door is a magical experience. The winery offers tastings at the cellar door, but for those seeking a more in-depth experience, All Saints Estate also offers private tastings which we were privileged to partake in at The Family Cellar.

We loved being taken through a private tasting of All Saints Estate's award winning wines accompanied by detailed tasting notes. Of particular note were the elegant and highly awarded Family Cellar Durif and Shiraz, regionally distinctive, these wines reflected the unique terroir the surrounding vineyards. And what would a trip to All Saints Estate be without sampling their irresistible Muscats and Muscadelles.

With vines planted more than 85 years ago, All Saints Estate is a winery run by a passionate family which honours traditional values and techniques in the heart of one of Victoria's premier food and wine destinations.

Terrace Restaurant

Eliza, Angela and Nicholas Brown had a dream to build a restaurant which would match the high quality of their All Saints Estate wines. In Terrace Restaurant, under the guidance of Executive Chef Simon Arkless, this dream has become a reality.

Terrace Restaurant has forged its reputation as one of the country's destination restaurants and it is easy to understand why. With stints in London at OXO and Harvey Nicholls' ‘Fifth Floor’ Michelin star restaurants and in Melbourne's The Elbow Room, Comme and The Prince, Arkless' strong grounding in European gastronomy and passion for fresh and local seasonal produce shines through. The menu prioritises flavour, boasting dishes of tried and true flavour combinations prepared with exceptional technique and utilising high quality, local produce (including All Saints Estate grown lamb, pork and fresh eggs).

Terrace Restaurant's relaxed dining room boasts floor to ceiling windows that provide breathtaking views out to the surrounding vineyards, manicured gardens and nearby lake.

To start we loved the dish of red mullet and baby octopus. A complex but well balanced combination, both the red mullet and octopus were perfectly cooked and the dish was seasoned through the addition of chorizo and a black olive and shallot dressing. It was magnificent.

For mains the 8 hour slow cooked lamb shoulder was a standout. Wonderfully seasoned, the lamb was incredibly tender and falling off the bone. We loved the Middle Eastern core of the dish and the decadent brik pastry roll filled with moreish pulled lamb. The dry aged black angus rump, slow cooked ox cheek, Jurusalem artichoke and red wine sauce was another standout, offering textural contrast between the rump and cheek (which were both exquisitely cooked), the dish was tied together by the velvety artichoke puree and deep, intoxicatingly rich red wine sauce.

The hearty warm marmalade pudding and warm doughnuts with grilled pineapple concluded our visit on a delightfully sweet note. We loved the lashings of whisky Anglaise which adorned the pudding, and the doughnuts were crisp, fluffy perfection.

Combining elegant, flavoursome, seasonal dishes with warm, knowledgeable service and wonderful wines produced just metres away, Terrace Restaurant provides a superb dining experience. Highly recommended.
