Chinese New Year @ Box Hill Central
/Gastrology recently attended an early Chinese New Year celebration at Box Hill Central.
We loved being taken on a delicious culinary journey with Kitchen Republik before indulging in sweet delights form Mövenpick.
Kitchen Republik embodies the Asian hawker stall with 6 stalls within the one venue. Think dumplings featuring delicious fillings within delicately thin pastry, Taiwanese street food and wok-tossed stir-fries.
The prawn and melon xiao long bao dumplings are a winner. Gracefully delicate pastry skin enveloping beautiful seafood broth.
Another must-have is the pork belly gua bao, The fluffy, moist and slightly sweet buns were filled with an addictive medley of pickled cabbage, coriander and sugar-coated crushed peanuts. Sitting alongside this was the wonderful pork belly. Having truly mastered the art of pork roasting, each pork belly slice had been succulently roasted to retain a porky juiciness, thereby achieving a healthy layer of melt-in-the-mouth fat in the process.
For dessert, Mövenpick's ice cream and decadent fondue delighted. We loved the array of gorgeous flavours of the wide variety of ice creams and sorbets.
