Burnley Brewing
/Top notch craft beer, delicious food, great vibes… Burnley Brewing ticks all the boxes. A collaboration between brewers Neil Mills and Phil Gijsbers (Saint James Cafe, Hard Pressed Coffee) and the owner of Renton Carlyle-Taylor (Romulus and Remus, Milton Wines, Toorak Cellars and The Alps), it’s no wonder the venue is running like a well-oiled machine.
Under the guidance of head brewer Michael Stanzel (the first Australian to attain the prestigious Brewer and Maltster apprenticeship accreditation exclusive to the German brewing scene), the team is killing it on the beer front. Thinks floral-forward late-hopped West Coast-style IPA. Fruity and punchy yet mildly bitter Saison and classic German style pilsners with a crisp and clean finish.
The food menu is not to be outshone. A common problem with breweries is that often the food offering isn’t quite strong but this is not the case here. The kitchen team from well-loved Romulus and Remus remains at this new incarnation to great effect. Top picks from the menu include the Crispy gnocchi, peas and chorizo - think pillow soft gnocchi with a crisp exterior served with a luxurious pea puree sauce and spicy, smokey chorizo. For mains the open lasagne is a stunner. Beautifully al dente sheets of pasta are layered between rich beef and pork ragu. For meat lovers, we recommend the bang for your buck Porterhouse steak (cooked to your liking) served with duck fat spuds, green beans and jus.
