Chutney Bar
/Located in Mornington, Chutney Bar draws in the crowds with its authentic Indian dining experience that caters to a range of customers, from vegan to meat lovers.
A family owned restaurant that was established in 2017, the clientele consists predominantly of regulars that live in the area. The restaurant is the brainchild of owner, Mr Jagvir Gill, who has had over 16 years of experience in the hospitality industry, and has established a number of Indian restaurants across the Peninsula over the years. Under Gill’s guidance, the restaurant runs like a truly well-oiled machine.
We loved tasting our way through their latest offering, the "Maharaja Thali', a huge Indian tasting platter that consists of a mix of the Chef's favourite selection items from the menu including a combination of delicious curries, rice, naan and dessert.
Everything tasted beautiful. Highlights from the Maharaja Thali included the chicken korma. Think melt in your mouth tender morsels of chicken laced with silky and buttery curry that went down a treat with the fluffy naans and basmati rice. The saag paneer was another winner and an excellent option that would please both vegetarians and meat eaters alike.
Our visit concluded on a sweet high with traditional gulab jamun - sweet fried dumplings made of dried milk served with aromatic rose and cardamom flavoured sugar syrup .
Inspired by restaurants, street stalls and homes of every region of India, Chutney Bar is a gem. The dishes showcase high quality ingredients and expert techniques. The relaxed and humble venue celebrates Indian culture with an array of beautifully presented dishes packed with flavour.
