CITIZEN encapsulates a Japanese influenced bar focused on Good Beer, Good Food and Good Times. With a menu that’s fun to share including over 20 gins and over 25 whiskeys & unique cocktail list, CITIZEN is the perfect spot to sip, share and snack in South Wharf.

In partnership with Asahi, CITIZEN is the only venue in Australia to have super cold beer chilled at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius. Originating from Japan, Asahi Super Dry is served as a super cold beer, where unlike any other beer, it goes through a secondary chilling plate and is served at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius.

The venue flows into two spaces; the atrium full of light by day, and lit by lanterns at night. From day to night, the space is warm with concrete, natural wood and leather banquets allowing the venue to create an earthy atmosphere. When night comes, the bar section is lit with pink and red making it reminiscent of a neon lit Tokyo bar. The diverse space is truly one of a kind, providing truly exceptional customer service and hospitality in the South Wharf district.

We loved tasting our way through their delicious menu. Our top picks include the prawn and chicken dumplings served with chili oil and the crispy miso eggplant chips. If you’re hungry, then we recommend enjoying one of their substantial bowls. We tried their tempura salmon bowl and loved it. The salmon was fried to perfection - perfectly crispy in an ethereally light tempura batter and served with cucumber, asparagus, radish, bonito, toasted sesame dressing and fluffy bio dynamic brown rice.

Whatever you do, do not leave without trying their desserts. The matcha ice cream sandwich will please any matcha lover and the red miso chocolate brownie served with spiced pear is an umami explosion. Just yum!
