/Dinner at Edwin Wine Bar
Located on the Ground Floor of Shadow Play by Peppers, Edwin Wine Bar and Cellar is the only venue in the world to offer guests the opportunity to drink from its exclusively Victorian focused wine list. Celebrating the diversity of our great Australian state, Edwin's wine list celebrates the diversity of region, style and approach to wine making in Victoria, taking it one step further to highlight the significant impact women in the local wine industry have, with an almost 50/50 balance of male and female winemakers represented on the wine list.
The beverage list itself has been curated by world-renown Sommelier Dan Sims and is overseen and managed by Sommelier Yu Kurosawa, along with their team bring to life the stories behind the wine.
The food offering at Edwin’s is not to be outshone. Boasting a contemporary Modern Australian offering, the menu heroes local producers and is versatile enough to take you from a light bite to dinner if you are so inclined.
We loved visiting Edwin for dinner.
To start the duck terrine with pistachio and citrus marmalade was beautifully made. The trout tartare was similarly delightful - decadently spiked with a tart mixture and served with refreshing pomelo, creamy avocado and puffed wild rice which provided a textural element. It was a pleasant and innovative variant of the classic tuna tartare.
For mains the fruit-fed great ocean duck was beautiful. The slices of duck breast were cooked to a rarely found perfection, allowing the natural rich flavours of the duck to shine through. The sweet and sticky rhubarb jus provided the crowning element to this luxurious dish.
For meatlovers, the Hagen’s organics beef porterhouse steak was a winner. Displaying a mastery in the manner the steak was cooked, the inch thick cut of beef was cooked perfectly from end to end. A good searing ensured that the steak was lined with a thin crisp layer packed with caramelised beef flavour.
Cheese and desserts at Edwin continued to please. We opted for the creamy L’Artisan Mountain Man, cow organic, timboon and were not disappointed. Our evening concluded on a sweet high with the dessert of chocolate mousse and malt. Just yum!
Combining simple, excellently executed and flavoursome food with warm, knowledgeable service and a well-judged wine list, Edwin provides a superb dining experience. Edwin is a compelling proposition which showcases a wide variety of elegant, seasonal dishes prepared with skill and restraint. And it just so happens to be located in a hotel if you fancy staying the night.

After dinner it was just a short stroll back to our room at Shadow Play. The hotel is ideally located - just one kilometre from the central business district. Its and a hop and a skip away from the Southbank Promenade.
We really enjoyed staying in the Deluxe One Bedroom Apartment. Floor to ceiling windows provide playful sources of light at different times of day in this beautifully appointed apartment. Featuring full kitchen and laundry facilities, along with a separate bedroom and living area, the apartment offered many advantages including FOXTEL, Tea and coffee making facilities and luxury Appelles amenities.
