El Rincón
/El Rincón is an authentic Spanish Tapas bar located in the heart of the Queen Victoria Market. The restaurant boasts a large range of premium Australian and Spanish wines to match its traditional Spanish meals and tapas offering which is inspired by the streets of Southern Spain.
Walking into El Rincón, patrons are immediately welcomed with genuine warmth. We couldn’t resist imbibing in the House Special Sangria which went down a treat with the food (we left our menu choices in the hands of the restaurant and were not disappointed).
To start the Salmorejo was wonderfully refreshing - a delightful blend of tomato and good quality extra virgin olive oil. The salmorejo is also used as a base for a lot of their other recipes.
The Spanish croquettes followed. These were beautifully flavoursome and made with jamon serrano and chorizo.
One of our favourite dishes was the Sardinas fritas. Chickpea flour battered fried sardines boasted an ethereally light texture and were filled with creamy cod (bacalao), potatoes and marinated capsicum. It was a delicious dish.
A visit to El Rincón would of course be incomplete without a taste of their delicious jamon iberico. We loved that it was served simply on olive oil infused bread accompanied by their salmarejo. Simple and simply beautiful.
Our favourite dish from our visit was the gambas al ajillo. A recipe from La Linia where the owners come from, the wonderfully fresh and plump prawns' natural flavours were enhanced by the use of the Verdejo grape.
To finish the Spanish flan concluded our visit on a sweet note. Melt in your mouth, creamy with just the right level of sweetness.
El Rincón delivers a little taste of Spain to Melbourne. Combined with welcoming hospitality, their passion for authentic Spanish cuisine and a great vibe, it is a lovely space to celebrate of food and wine
