Elektra Dining Room
/Elektra Dining Room is an intimate and bold after-dark dining destination in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD that has recently opened.
A beautiful, relaxed and alluring hideaway, Elektra Dining Room, allows guests to create the experience they want. Versatile enough to take you from a quick bite after work or before a show to a lingering dinner or a late-night assignation.
Lead by Executive Chef Reuben Davis and General Manager Joey Commerford, Elektra is a modern European dining room inspired by cuisines that have found a home in Australia. Chef Davis’ menu is succinct and changes weekly with dishes that he loves and wants guests to relax into and share.
Davis, former Executive Chef of The Press Club, now Executive Chef for Gazi and Elektra, has embraced the opportunity to create a new and relaxed dining and drinking experience. English native, Davis’ experience includes 11 years in fine dining, with stint including working under Michelin Star chef Sat Bains at Sat Bains in Nottingham before arriving in Australia.
We loved tasting our way through the menu. To start the pickled shiitake taco with macadamia cream was beautiful. The Southern Ocean squid was similarly delicious. Tender ribbons of squid were served with wilted greens, malt tarama and fingerlime which added a mouth-watering acidity to the dish.
The BBQ leeks were yet another winner. Chargrilled to perfection the leeks simply melted in our mouths and was served with a luxurious truffle puree and sauce vin jaune.
For mains the rockling was a real highlight. The natural sweetness of the exceedingly fresh rockling shone through and was enhanced by sweet peas, salami and wild garlic.
Dessert time showcased the restaurant’s versatility. The dessert of treacle tart and liquorice sorbet was thoroughly modern and simply a joy to indulge in.
On the drinks front, expect a neat selection of classic cocktails celebrating Australia’s great distilleries including Alchemy and Four Pillars. The wine list offers 30 outstanding wines by the glass, interesting blends from thoughtfully chosen producers, among them Trofeo Estate (Mornington) and Moric (Austria).
General Manager Joey Commerford, whose career is distinguished by roles at the Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld, Vue de monde, Iki-Jime Seafood by Vue and, most recently, General Manager of The Press Club ensures that Elektra Dining Room provides true hospitality with great service, great food, great cocktails and wine, with equal emphasis on both food and beverage.
