Element
/Now under new management, the iconic Element Restaurant in Lower Plenty has reopened following extensive renovations.
The early 1900s farmstead underwent refurbishment to reenergise the space and embrace its native 2-acre bush land surrounds. The dining room is modern providing a striking contrast to the property’s rich history. The space includes a cast concrete bar, custom made furniture and lighting pendants, and an outdoor courtyard which looks out onto the garden.
The restaurant uses locally sourced produce as well as vegetables from their organic garden.
The new menu boasts artisanal dishes with influences from all over the world. Highlights during our visit included perfectly cooked pan roasted crispy salmon with courgette cream and house pickled blueberries.
An absolute stand out (and must-have!) was the pork knuckle. Element has truly mastered the art of pork roasting. The pork knuckle was succulently roasted to retain a porky juiciness, achieving a healthy layer of melt-in-the-mouth fat in the process - combining flawless texture with equally superlative flavours. Each moreish morsel was tender with the crackling, possessing the ultimate crunch.
For dessert do not go past the house-made seasonal tarts. Think crumbly short crust pastry, beautiful fillings and a dollop of ice cream.
