Discreetly located in the heart of the city, Eva’s Restaurant & Bar brings you heartfelt home-style cooking with a contemporary edge and an indulgent cocktail bar.
Boasting sleek interiors reflective of the 1950s, Eva’s embodies the enigmatic character of leading lady, Eva Erdi. Known for her welcoming nature, elegant flair and appreciation of a good Martini, Eva immigrated from Hungary to Melbourne in the 1950s and went on to build a hotel empire with husband Les, Erdi Group.
We loved tasting our way through the restaurant’s creative yet classic food philosophy, all washed down by a delicious bottle of 2014 Freycinet Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot from their commendable wine list.
To start the dish of Buffalo mozzarella, basil, tomatoes, mint and cucumber was simple yet simply beautiful – a stunning combination of classic flavours that simply work.
For mains the roast duck breast was a real crowd pleaser. The slices of duck breast were cooked to a rarely found perfection allowing the rich flavour of the duck to shine through. The accompanying Crispy leg croquettes were perfectly crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The sweet and sticky cherry jus provided the crowning element to the luxurious dish.
For meat lovers, the steaks at Eva’s are a cut above. Our 280g Wagyu striploin MB5+ steak was beautifully cooked and arrived cooked medium as requested. Perfectly seared on the outside and beautifully juicy and pink on the inside. It was evident that the meat was sourced from a quality producer and great care had been taken in its preparation.
Whatever you do, save room for dessert and indulge in the pear tarte tatin - think sweet fruit over a comforting blanket of gloriously sticky sweet toffee and melt-in-your-mouth pastry finished with vanilla ice cream and walnut crumble. Simply lovely.
