Known for its exceptional wines and innovative design, Fowles Wine has transformed a humble corrugated iron shed into a remarkable restaurant and cellar door, now open for dinner every Friday.
Fowles Wine's dining space is a testament to creativity, sustainability, and family collaboration. Designed by Jay Phillips, partner to Matt Fowles’ brother Jim, the venue retains the character of its original shed with features like a galvanized corrugated ceiling. This element not only echoes the quintessential Australian shed but has been cleverly engineered to enhance acoustics, ensuring a comfortable dining experience.
The menu at Fowles Wine showcases the region’s finest produce, with a focus on farm and game meats, alongside seasonal ingredients sourced locally. Guests can enjoy everything from light, fresh salads and charcuterie to hearty dishes perfect for sharing. The flavours reflect the Strathbogie Ranges’ authentic country style, offering a wholesome, rustic dining experience. Think refined entrées such as cured kingfish and burrata, alongside hearty mains like crispy pork belly, melt-in-your-mouth slow-cooked lamb, and perfectly cooked steaks. Beyond dining, Fowles Wine offers a fully immersive experience. The cellar door features a stunning tasting bar where visitors can sample wines. The glass hall, with floor-to-ceiling windows, connects the tasting bar to the courtyard, offering views of the scenic Strathbogie Ranges.
Located at the corner of Hume Freeway and Lambing Gully Road in Avenel, Fowles Wine is open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm (excluding Christmas Day). Dinner service is available every Friday evening, making it the ideal destination for a weekend escape or a special evening out.
