Golden Week at Nobu

With a unique menu that features contemporary sushi alongside traditional Japanese dishes, and stunning vistas overlooking the Yarra River, Nobu offers a memorable dining experience.

Gastrology recently celebrated Golden Week at Nobu by indulging in a delectable banquet alongside a secret off the menu cocktail!

Valued at $42, this special cocktail was created exclusively to celebrate the national Japanese holiday, Golden Week. In honour of the biggest holiday period in Japan, the cocktail combines Hibiki Harmony whisky, orange bitters and Japanese Shiso leaves, and is a refreshing nod to Greenery day.

Golden Week in Japan is a time for people to get together and celebrate Japanese culture and heritage with family, friends and good food.

We loved tasting our way through Nobu's delicious dishes. To start, the seleciton of sashimi and signature yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño was exquisite. The Beef Tataki with Ponzu and Garlic Chips to follow was similarly delicious. The contrasting textures defined this dish - perfectly rare, tender slices of beef were served warm and seasoned with Ponzu and Garlic Chips.

A tempura platter graced us next. A commendable modern rendition of a traditional Japanese dish, the batter was ethereally light and crispy. The seafood which sat within the batter was fresh and most memorable. We loved the selection of sauces and in particular the tangy ponzu sauce which was the perfect accompaniment to cut through the rich oiliness of the tempura pieces.

A Nobu must-have, the Black Cod Miso signaled the start of our main courses. The cod was beautifully fresh, vividly white and had been cooked to perfection. We were blown away by the silky texture and the golden-brown charred bits of caramelised miso on the fish. It was a stunning dish.

Our savoury courses concluded on a decadent note with melt in your mouth short ribs and a luxurious wagyu steak. Continuing on the trend of the evening, this was wonderful.

Dessert time is equally as exciting at Nobu. Our top pick for dessert is the Nobu Whiskey Cappuccino. A Nobu Signature dish, this dessert contained Coffee Crème Brûlée, chopped Espresso Bean Crumble and Milk Ice Cream Topped with Suntory Whiskey Foam. Simply beautiful.

Nobu exceeds expectations. Using traditional Japanese ingredients and techniques as the base, each dish on the menu is made Nobu's own with unique flavours and textures. Whether dropping in for cocktails, pulling up a seat at the sushi bar, or settling back with friends for the evening, it’s a fresh experience for guests to savour.
