Guo Fu Lou

Michelin starred Guo Fu Lou has recently moved to the newly opened The Murray, one of Hong Kong's most iconic landmarks.

Gastrology were privileged to visit the restaurant at its new home a week before its opening to discover what sets the restaurant apart and find out a little more about the new direction that Guo Fu Lou will be taking at the new venue.

Upon entering the restaurant, guests will be wow-ed by the sensuous interiors which boast a contemporary chic and authentically inspired design. The restaurant is also in the process of preparing a sprawling terrace, which seats beneath the Hotel's courtyard heritage tree. This will provide the perfect vantage point to observe the Hotel's thought-provoking arrival and departure activities and is a distinctive setting ideal for outdoor dining - a unique feature among Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong and the region.

We were pleased to sample a delicious degustation menu  - a taste of the new Modern Cantonese cuisine the restaurant will be serving at its new home.

The team's persistence in sourcing only the finest ingredients and preparing dishes with perfect consistency was clear from the tasting.

Our top picks from the menu include the baked abalone tartlets with diced chicken – think incredibly short, melt in your mouth pastry encasing luscious abalone and flavoursome chicken morsels. Just yum! The signature steamed crab claw with egg white and Huadiao Wine is, of course, another must have. We loved the delicate steamed eggwhite which was the perfect match to the tender crab claw. For something heartier, the seafood fried rice in black truffle sauce will leave you feeling entirely satisfied.

The Hotel’s location, combined with stunning ambience, Guo Fu Lou’s legendary cuisine and outstanding service, makes this restaurant one that is definitely worth a visit when in Hong Kong.
