Hakoya Izakaya
/Hakoya Izakaya is an izakaya-style establishment located in Melbourne’s CBD that offers a laid back and modern environment for catching up with friends and family with a focus on food designed to share in stylish but comfortable surroundings.
Accompanying the wide range of sake and Japanese beers is a smorgasbord of Japanese eats ranging from nabe (Japanese hot pots) to ramen and donburi (rice dishes).
Any Japanese feast would be incomplete without sushi and sashimi. We loved starting with the salmon sashimi platter which was absolutely delicious. Each element was skilfully prepared and the salmon was exceedingly fresh.
To follow, the soy karaage chicken was wonderfully crispy and topped with a sticky homemade soy and garlic sauce.
The Wasabi Nori Taco was similarly delicious. Battered and deep fried seaweed acted as taco shells and were topped with cubed ponzu marinated salmon, tuna, egg roll and fish roe. It was absolutely moreish.
Whatever you do, do not leave without trying their amazing tonkatsu. The home-made bread crumbed deep fried pork loin cutlet was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The crumbed prawns and tempura camembert cheese are also just as delicious if you’re not a fan of pork. The Katsu menu also comes with rice and miso soup – the perfect canvas for all the indulgent crumbed goodness.
