House of Hoi An

A venue by internationally renowned Vietnamese chef and restaurateur, Ms Trinh Diem Vy, House of Hoi An brings decades of culinary experience and devotion to classic, impeccably prepared Vietnamese cuisine to Melbourne.

Set within a beautiful space which transports you miles away from Melbourne, House of Hoi An is a popular destination for discerning foodies and it is easy to understand why

Inside, the restaurant features old-school rustic wall paper, colourful lanterns and window panes to create an outdoor feel. It's all a little but magical.

The restaurant focuses on locally sourced seasonal produce, all wrapped up in a ferociously vibrant Vietnamese setting. The modern Vietnamese menu nods to tradition with a healthy and modern philosophy. The menu is exciting, with dishes you will not see anywhere else in Melbourne and there are plenty of  gluten free and vegetarian-friendly options throughout.

To start, the 'roll your own' shrimp mousse on sugarcane is a stunner. A popular, traditional Southern Vietnam dish, we loved wrapping the moreish morsels of local marinated shrimp together with rice paper, noodles and fresh herbs before dipping it into the umami laden sweet and sour dipping sauce - This is one flavour bomb you will love.

For something refreshing, the morning glory salad is absolutely beautiful. A mouth-watering amalgamation of shrimp, pork belly, sliced onions, sesame, roasted peanuts and morning glory brought together with a well-balanced garlic, lime and shallot dressing.

The mains continue the trend of the evening - DELICIOUS.

Our absolute favourite dish of the night was the eggplant clay pot. This well-conceived dish was bursting with flavour and took full advantage of the eggplant’s most notable characteristic – its supple flesh. The thick pieces of creamy eggplant flesh melted in the mouth in a manner similar to unctuous pork fat and combined perfectly with the sautéed pork mince.

Similarly delicious was the dish of stuffed squid in pork. This traditional dish blended textures and spices to great effect. Think tender squid filled with luscious pork mince, wood-ear mushrooms and mungbean vermicelli. Just yum.

If you have a sweet tooth, House of Hoi An has you sorted with a trio of delectable desserts. We loved the Banana Flambe which (as its name suggests) features sugar bananas flambéed with rum and served with coconut sago. It's a creamy, gooey, sweet mess.
