Kekou
/Set along bustling Bridge Road in Richmond, Kekou is housed within a historic 120 year old building and made new with 18 craft beer taps, an extensive wine and cocktail list and a fresh-daily kitchen.
An exciting, forward-thinking restaurant with an unsurprisingly loyal following, Kekou serves up exceptional and progressive Asian-inspired dishes that boasts complexity and aggressive yet balanced flavours. Head chef Oak Kunnalok, originally from Bangkok, Thailand and an alumnus of acclaimed restaurants such as Nobu, Chin Chin and Rice Paper Scissors, has created a contemporary fusion menu that takes traditional favourites next level. The familiar Asian flavour balance of sweet, sour, salty, spicy is elevated with bold and less familiar flavours that give layers of complexity to its flavour game. A mix of small and larger plates are designed for sharing to experience a range of these flavour sensations.
Venue Manager Chad McCarthy has curated a comprehensive wine, beer and cocktail list that works in concert with the cuisine.
We loved tasting our way through the menu. Highlights included the Lobster Betel Leaf which boasts a multitude of intense flavours and is highlighted by plump and fresh lobster morsels and pronounced sweet and savouriness of the coconut sambal.
Another must-have is the Kaffir lime cured kingfish sashimi served with red nahm jim, coconut and lime pearl and the utterly unctuous five spiced pork belly with chilli palm caramel and pomelo mint salad. Just yum!
