Korean Grill House
/Dangling ventilators set the scene at Korean Grill House which impresses guests with smokey traditional grills, Korean style. But there is so much more to this restaurant than BBQ. Korean Grill House shows Australians that there’s so much more to Korean food with its regional Korean cuisine and stews that you will struggle to find anywhere else in the country.
Head chef and owner Arlan Van Rooyen is trained in classical French cuisine and has worked with some of the top chefs in the world but his true passion lies with Korean cuisine. Arlan’s passion formed during his 10 years working in Korea and being deeply immersed in its culture. This passion translates into the restaurant’s extensive dinner menu, which, in line with its social setting, is primarily designed for sharing, with dishes divided into user friendly sections.
To start, Arlan transported us to Jeju Island with a stunning and exceedingly fresh seafood bimbimbap and scallops (based on a typical Jeju Island clams recipe).
To follow, the KGH Fried Chicken was similarly delicious – an addictive take on the Korean favourite made with free range boneless chicken marinated and coated in seasoning and fried to a crisp perfection.
Whatever you do, do not leave without trying their house-made kimchi soup. It’s a thing of beauty and boasts a luxurious depth of flavour from the sweetness of the pork.
A visit to Korean Grill House would of course be incomplete without some of their famous BBQ meats. We adore the Sher wagyu 8+ score served with a range of Banchan (Korean side dishes), fluffy rice and mixed green leaf salad. The meat was grilled to perfection by the attentive staff before our very eyes. It is clear that Korean Grill House are sourcing only the best quality produce and it really does make a difference.
Korean Grill House has welcomed a heap of celebrity and even royalty as guests and it is easy to understand why. It’s a neighbourhood gem loved by locals and worth the trip for everyone else.
