Munich Brauhaus

Munich Brauhaus is where Munich meets Melbourne. Bringing to life a traditional Bavarian bierhaus, the restaurant is the land where Oktoberfest never ended. A place to dine, drink and party in a state-of-the-art waterfront venue which seats over 900 people.

The space embodies the heart and soul of Munich and boasts three distinct bars: The Wundabar; Jäger Bar; and Über Bar. Each perfect for after-work or casual weekend steins.

Munich Brauhaus has just launched a new seasonal menu with fresh starters, such as spicy squid and crispy onion rings; the house-made gourmet sausage range now includes veal and truffle, and Tasmanian lamb; and the Jägerschnitzel - 250g of golden crumbed chicken served with wild mushroom ragout - completes a winning list of seven schnitzels.

But the biggest and best bit is still to come. Brand new on the menu is a section of high-quality meat and steaks: including coffee spice-rubbed ribs with sweet BBQ sauce, Byron Bay Berkshire pork cutlet, and Great Southern Tasmanian lamb rump. From the Grainge Black Angus beef portfolio comes spice-rubbed, aged beef rib sirloin, and ‘butcher’s cut’ minute steak that can be purchased per 100g.

The steak offering in particular met our expectations admirably - a light searing ensured that it was lined with a thin crisp layer packed with caramelised beef flavour.  The meat was intense with a deep earthy richness and texturally it was sublime with a decadent melt in the mouth, almost buttery, consistency.

Bavarian classics, such as crackling pork belly and crispy pork knuckle, remain alongside build-your-own salads, chicken wings with BBQ, buffalo or diablo sauce, and signature Bavarian tasting platters that comprise of a collection of some of the tastiest morsels across the menu.

For those with big appetites, there’s The Schnitzelmeister: 1kg of pure crispy crumbed veal with a choice of sides, which serves up to four guests. If a guest can demolish it solo within an hour, the $100 mega schnitzel is on the house.

And then there's dessert… Whatever you do, do not leave without trying their cheesecake. Think indulgent decadent cream cheese, melt in your mouth, crumbly, buttery crust all served with a good lashing of gooey, thick salted caramel. You can thank us later.

The generous menu really has something for everyone from light lunch options to weekend dinner feasts to nibbles from the deli menu and share plates out in the Bier Garten.

The beer menu is being equally beefed up, with an exclusive new range of seasonal, small-batch brews by Urban Craft Brewing Co, dubbed The Secret Brewer’s Project. These limited-release brews are being created through collaborations with small craft breweries across Australia, and will change with the seasons.

First on tap is an Imperial IPA, which pairs well with wagyu chilli beef sausages, and BBQ ribs. The next release in mid-May will be Firecracker Blonde, a big wheat beer with aromas of biscuit and caramel that will perfectly complement pork cutlet and Swiss schnitzel.

Munich Brauhaus offers patrons the opportunity to experience Oktoberfest 365 days of the year in the heart of Melbourne’s bustling South Wharf. With the new food and beer menu, it's an even more compelling proposition.
