Natural History Public Bar
/100 Burgers Group have reopened the doors to its Collins Street venue as a reinvigorated public bar. Expect an extensive list of natural wines plus a new gastropub menu featuring classic dishes and daily specials.
Aiming to be a hub for Collins Street workers looking for an easy lunch or a drink after work. The venue will also host regular entertainment with piano man Matt Ganim taking requests every Thursday and Friday from 8pm.
The new menu features a diverse selection of casual pub fare. We loved tasting our way through the menu. To start the Whole Mozzarella was delicious – a wonderfully fresh dish which featured fresh tomato, and creamy mozzarella alongside black olive crumbs which provided just the perfect touch of salinity. The Spicy Beef Tartare was similarly delicious. It was a modern take on the traditional which was served with unctuous cured egg yolk, fermented chilli and puffed tendon.
For mains the steaks are not to be missed. We loved the 300g flat iron which was served with onion rings, charred tomato and your sauce of choice. Displaying a mastery in the manner the steak was cooked, the inch thick cut of beef was cooked perfectly from end to end. A light searing ensured that each steak was lined with a thin crisp layer packed with caramelised beef flavour. Just yum!
While the food menu has changed, Natural History’s impressive wine list continues to feature a varied selection of natural wines. The focus here is on heavily organic and biodynamic producers which offer a great snapshot of the Australian and European wine scene.
For those not so wine-inclined there is a cocktail menu made up of classics.
