Neon Tiger

The newest concept from the entrepreneurs behind Mr Brightside and Hendrick's Food Store, Neon Tiger is a bustling, contemporary café located in leafy Malvern.

Crafted by architects Sibling Nation, the interior is spacious, sleek and flooded with natural light.

Owners Paul, George and Tait's experience operating and managing some of Melbourne’s finest restaurants translates into a welcoming environment boasting excellent food and coffee as well as seamless service.

The menu features a myriad of delicious and interesting brunch options and we loved tasting our way through the menu.

For something hearty and substantial, we recommend the cheesy croquettes. A staff favourite, the crunchy exterior of the crumbed croquettes gave way to soft, flavoursome mashed potato. Combined with spicy jalapeno, Monterey Jack cheese, Mexican beans, snow pea tendrils, chorizo and two perfectly poached eggs, this was comfort food at its best.

For a lighter option, we absolutely adored the roasted cauliflower salad - a medley of exciting flavours and textures which will appeal to even the most carnivorous individuals.  An enlivening combination including earthy brown rice, almond, fresh pomegranate, luxurious feta, herbs and a refreshing beetroot puree and honey labna which brought the whole dish together.

To finish, the banana and caramel pancakes are a real showstopper and a must try. The pancakes were fluffy and moist and embellished with all the good things in life - wonderfully caramelised banana, decadent nut crumble, slightly tart fresh berries and berry coulis and, of course, ice cream.

Amazing for locals but definitely worth a journey otherwise, Neon Tiger is a great place to spend an afternoon.
