Pizza E Birra in St Kilda has a new lease on life thanks to new owners (Dario D'agostino, Joe Codespoti and Ly Nguyen) and have recently unveiled a new menu to whet Melbourne's appetites.

Pizza E Birra celebrates the Italian way by embracing the joy of sharing locally sourced, fresh produce together with family and friends. The heart of Italian cuisine and culture is at the core of the new menu, with every dish on the menu created using traditional flavours and techniques that have been brought over from Italy, handed down through generations of Nonna’s and Nonno’s to be recreated right here in Melbourne, Australia’s food capital.

As expected from any great Italian eatery, Pizza E Birra make excellent pasta dishes. The Gnocchi Campagnola featuring pillow-soft gnocchi, Gorgonzola DOP, toasted walnuts, radicchio blue cheese and walnuts was a stunning start to our meal. It was comfort food at its best.

For mains, the pizzas were superb. Of particular note was the Porcini Pizza - picture perfect in appearance and outstanding in taste. decadent Italian pork sausages, porcini mushrooms, dollops of ricotta finished with black truffle shavings created a delightful fusion of flavours that would keep any pizza purist happy. Encircled with a puffy crisp crust, this pizza was superb.

A duo of desserts concluded our dinner on a sweet high. The Tiramisu al Caffè was a stunning dessert. A thoroughly modern interpretation with all the things you love about a classic tiramisu. Made with cold brew espresso, coffee soil and anglaise, this is one for the coffee lovers.The Pannacotta alla Mela Verde was similarly delicious. Think melt in your mouth green apple pannacotta alongside almond soil and a variety of fresh fruit.

The new Pizza E Birra is well positioned to truly establish themselves as maestros of the Melbourne pizza scene. If you are looking for quality pizzas of the gourmet kind, and authentic Italian food, this eatery should be at the top of your list.
